It’s been over two weeks since Killian left. Sarge and Enzo have no idea where he is, and he hasn’t tried to contact me. Everything here has been quiet…way too quiet if you ask me. Sarge has been a little distant, and I can’t pinpoint what’s wrong. Mario is in and out with his two brothers, and they are hell-bent on finding Aldo.

Pixie is slowly coming around, even if she has her sights set on Milo, who is still too old for her. I don’t know why she feels the need to want a boy in her life right now. She refuses to talk to me about what happened to her.

The upside to today is that the nursery furniture has arrived, and Enzo has security unloading it into the house while I sit at the bottom of the stairs with all three dogs by my side. Mutley half sits on my lap and the stairs, while Balthazar and Ansel sit on either side of me. I run my fingers over Mutley’s coarse fur. When one of the young security guards comes in with a box and approaches, Ansel stands and growls, and Balthazar moves closer to me.

“This box came for you in the mail.”

It’s only a small box, nothing larger than what you’d get in the standard mail. Sarge whistles, and both Ansel and Balthazar stand down. I move Mutley from my lap and push to my feet, meeting the poor man where he stands so the dogs don’t rip him apart.

Sarge calls the dogs, and all three start to follow him, which is smart. It’s probably safer if he puts them in their room.

“Thank you,” I say to the young man whose name I think is Cam, but there are so many of them, I can never remember who is who. I take the package, rip off the tape, and open the lid. The box is filled with pictures of Harper, covered in blood. I drop the box, and Kaser comes running toward me.

“Someone call Harper. NOW!!!”

Milo is next to race down the stairs; he must not know what’s happening. “Jordyn, you need to come and see Pixie, now.”

I nod. “Kaser, find Harper, please. I need to know that she is okay.”

“On it, go and check on your sister.”

Milo rips his shirt off and hands it to me. “To wipe your hands.”

Taking the shirt, I wipe the sticky red from my hands, and I notice it’s not thick enough to be actual blood. I follow him up to Pixie’s room, where she sits on her bed and holds out her phone.

“You lied to me,” she says. “You told me Mom was missing, but she looks alive to me.”

Moving closer, I take the phone from her hands and scroll through the pictures of our mother. She looks healthy. A drastic change from the last I saw of her.

“I said she was missing, not dead, Pix. I seriously had no idea where she was.”

The better question is, who the hell is sending her pictures of our mother? This makes no sense.
